Postpartum Care at UVM Health

After experiencing mental and physical health changes throughout pregnancy and childbirth, we want to make sure you are healthy and recovering from your delivery. Postpartum care is not a single visit. At University of Vermont Health, we are here for you for as long as you need us.

We schedule postpartum checkups after your delivery. During these visits, which may be offered through a digital health appointment, we make sure you are healing and discuss issues such as:

Postpartum Care Services

Breastfeeding Support

Breastfeeding can be challenging for new parents. We help you prepare for breastfeeding with breast pump advice, breastfeeding classes and other resources. After delivery, you have access to professionals with specialized training to help you successfully breastfeed your baby, including:

  • Certified lactation consultants
  • International board-certified lactation consultants
  • Postpartum nurses
Mental Health Care

It’s normal to feel a range of emotions during and after pregnancy. Our caring providers, social workers and mental health professionals are here to help. We can connect you with resources to help you manage stress, anxiety, cope with the challenges of daily life or the onset of postpartum depression.

Pelvic Floor Therapy

Your pelvic floor is the sling of muscles that supports your abdominal and pelvic organs and controls your bladder and bowels. Problems with the pelvic floor often develop in people recovering from childbirth. Pelvic floor therapy provides manual therapy, education, training and exercise to treat your condition.

Pelvic Medicine and Rehabilitation

Pelvic muscles and tissues can weaken due to childbirth leading to incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. Our Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic brings together a trusted team of professionals to provide surgical and non-surgical treatments.

Home Health & Hospice

Family Care at Home

We provide expert and compassionate at-home care and support services to pregnant people and new parents, as well as physical therapy and other supportive care for children and families in Chittenden and Grand Isle counties.
