Trusted Care When and Where You Need It Most

At University of Vermont Health, we know mental health is foundational to overall health. Our mental health specialists deliver effective, compassionate care to people with mental illness. We help children, teens, adults and families discover well-being and enjoy an improved quality of life.

Our psychiatrists (medical doctors specializing in mental health) and psychologists (talk therapy experts) listen to you carefully to understand your needs. Your care team — with you at the center — determines the right path to help you feel better now and in the years to come.

Our mental health experts at primary care clinics and hospital-based specialty programs work together so you benefit from our expertise no matter where you see us for care.

Why Choose UVM Health?

As one of the leading providers of mental health services in the region, we offer:

  • Experienced, compassionate mental health providers: We are experts in advanced, proven cognitive and behavioral therapies. As part of a health system anchored by an academic medical center, our clinicians are also active researchers, many of whom train the next generation of experts.
  • Mental health integration into primary care: Your mental health is as vital to your overall health as your blood pressure or cholesterol level. That's why mental health is now part of our primary care services. Our mental health professionals work with you and your primary care team to evaluate and support your mental health needs.
  • Vermont Family-Based Approach: Our innovative pediatric mental health program places families at the center of children's emotional and overall health. Developed by University of Vermont doctors and researchers, care systems nationwide use this approach to promote health and well-being in their communities.
