Knee Care at UVM Health

An active lifestyle can improve your health and quality of life. In Vermont and northern New York, we’re surrounded by hiking trails, lakes, mountains and ski resorts that encourage year-round outdoor fun. But sports and other daily activities can be hard on your knees, which support and stabilize your body's weight.

You’ll find leading treatment for a full spectrum of knee problems at University of Vermont Health. As part of a health system anchored by an academic medical center, our sports medicine physicians, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists — including physicians who volunteer with the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team — specialize in the most advanced types of knee care.

Their skills and expertise enable them to treat whatever problem you have, from simple to the most complex knee conditions.

Why Choose UVM Health?

We offer personalized, comprehensive knee care across Vermont and northern New York for conditions ranging from sports injuries to wear-and-tear arthritis. We aim to get you back to the activities you enjoy, with less pain.

As one of the leading orthopedic programs in the region, we offer:

  • Experience and expertise: Our knee surgeons perform hundreds of procedures each year, positioning them among the most experienced in the region. They regularly perform ACL revision surgeries and other complex knee procedures, such as multi-ligament knee reconstruction and cartilage repair.
  • Spectrum of services: We offer a full range of services to treat knee injuries and conditions, including advanced MRIs, in-office ultrasounds, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, BEAR ACL surgery and robotic surgeries like Mako robotic arm-assisted knee replacement. Our team coordinates closely with specialized physical therapists who help you heal and restore function.
  • Patient-centered approach: Your care team spends time with you to learn more about your concerns, goals and treatment preferences before creating a personalized care plan. When possible, we start with non-surgical treatments, and only recommend surgery when it’s the most effective option.
  • Research emphasis: As part of an academic health system, our physicians are active researchers, many of whom are training the next generation of experts. We have a long history of researching knee injuries, skiing and winter sports injuries, and ACL tears. Our team is early to adopt the newest therapies, and we were the first health system in Vermont to offer the BEAR ACL implant. Our position at the forefront of knee care research helps us bring you the most up-to-date treatments.
