About Our Location
The Mother Baby Unit at University of Vermont Health - UVM Medical Center is a comfortable place to welcome your newborn. Our space enables you to be cared for by our expert physicians and staff while resting and preparing for your journey home.
Our team recognizes the importance of individual choices during pregnancy and childbirth. We welcome patients of all races, ethnicities, abilities, gender identities and sexual orientations.

Our unit is conveniently located on the same floor as the Birthing Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Our space includes:
- Private bathrooms in most rooms
- A comfortable sleeping space in most rooms for supporting family members
- A comfortable waiting area for families and visitors
Our Team
Our team includes obstetricians, midwives, family medicine providers, maternal-fetal medicine physicians, residents, nurses, lactation consultants, students and support staff. Our team is trained to provide postpartum and newborn care and education. We provide support as you recover from delivery and learn how to care for your newborn’s needs. If you or your newborn’s care is best provided in labor & delivery or in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), we will work collaboratively to provide holistic care to your family.

We are trained to support you and your newborn in those important first few days of breastfeeding. If you require more intensive support with breastfeeding, we offer an Inpatient Lactation Program to provide additional support. We can also provide a list of home lactation services available in the community.
If you have non-urgent questions or concerns, please call us at 802-847-2237. Leave a message and a board-certified lactation consultant will get back to you with advice and support.
We are proud to offer our families personalized lactation/feeding support and education. We staff International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) seven days a week. All of our nursing staff are trained by the IBCLC team and many of our nurses pursue additional lactation training and education to better serve our families and their feeding goals.
Upon admission to UVM Medical Center, we will ask your feeding goals and help you learn how to best feed your newborn based on your goals and preferences.

playground meetups for families with a NICU experience. - La Leche League of Massachusetts/Rhode Island/Vermont: A worldwide educational, non–sectarian, not-for-profit, volunteer- based organization providing breastfeeding information and support to those who want to breastfeed.
- New Parent Community Facebook Group: A private Facebook group dedicated to sharing information and providing a safe place to share anything about your first year with baby.
- Strong Families Program: Home-based support in the perinatal period.
- Dad Guild: A local community group providing support and connection to those in the father-figure role.
- The Family Room: The Janet S. Munt Family Room is a unique parent child center providing programs that are accessible to all and flexible enough to meet the needs of our changing community.
