Internal Medicine
The Internal Medicine Residency Preliminary Track provides residents bound for training in non-medicine specialties with a broad and intensive exposure to internal medicine. The curriculum for residents completing a preliminary year is similar to categorical medicine first year residents. Ample elective time allows the residents to prepare for specialty training or to expand their knowledge in focused areas of internal medicine.
Preliminary interns at the University of Vermont continue their training in other programs offered at the University of Vermont. We do not offer preliminary positions to applicants not applying to Radiology or Dermatology at this institution.
Residents entering the neurology program are in the Neurology Categorical Program at the University of Vermont and have a full preliminary year on the medical services.
Residents entering the anesthesia program at the University of Vermont spend 6 months of their preliminary year on the medical services and 6 months on the surgical service.
