Message from the Director

Welcome to the University of Vermont and the University of Vermont Health OBGYN residency program.  Located in Burlington, Vermont, our program combines the strengths of a university-based medical center with the collegiality, accessibility and quality of life unique to our local community.

The foundation of our OBGYN residency program is one of exceptional opportunities and broad clinical training.  We are based out of the University of Vermont Medical Center which provides the highest levels of specialized care, and serves as a tertiary referral center for Northern New England.  High clinical volume and early graduated responsibility prepare our graduates for success in fellowship, academic medicine, and community practice alike.

We have subspecialists on faculty who have both their clinics and operating room privileges on site, enabling residents to easily participate in the full range of each subspecialty.  We work closely Certified Nurse Midwives on Labor and Delivery and in the clinic to create a foundation for collaborative and supportive care that will last through our residents’ entire careers.  In addition, all our clinical faculty maintain a high level of clinical activity and scholarship, allowing opportunities for mentorship regardless of a residents’ clinical or educational interests.

Many members of our faculty are nationally recognized for their work in undergraduate and graduate medical education.  We take great pride in creating an environment where education is intentional, innovative, and learner centered.  We believe that the best training comes in an environment where residents are challenged, supported and empowered to grow into confident physicians, surgeons, educators and leaders.  We prioritize a culture of curiosity, humility, teamwork and genuine care and regard for one another and our patients.

We are proud of the program we have built, and invite you to learn more about our program, our residents and the community that makes training at the University of Vermont such a special and rewarding experience.
