Application Requirements

Application requirements for The Internal Medicine Residency Program at UVM Medical Center:

To be considered for an interview, please submit your application through ERAS and include the following documents:

  1. Curriculum vitae
  2. Personal statement
  3. Medical School transcript
  4. MSPE (formerly the Dean’s Letter)
  5. USMLE and/or COMLEX score report. 
  6. Letters of recommendations: three letters preferably from faculty who have supervised clinical work. A departmental letter such as a Vice Chair for Education, Internal Medicine Chair Letter, Department of Medicine Structured Evaluative Letter (SEL) or Clerkship Director letter is recommended as part of the three letters. We will accept an optional fourth letter.
  7. Candidates should be U.S. Citizens, permanent residents, or J-1 visa holders with an ECFMG certificate.
  8. Applicants can interview for all tracks on a single interview day and can apply to both tracks (categorical and primary care) if that aligns with their interests.
  9. Cutoff date since graduation from medical school is three years.
  10. Our interviews will all be virtual through Thalamus.
  11. For the 2025 interview season with start of residency in 2026, our application deadline is November 1, 2025.
  12. Score requirements: Minimum requirements for USMLE Step 2CK is 215 and COMLEX2 is 500.

For the 2026 ERAS® cycle, our program will be collecting and reviewing data from applicants' supplemental ERAS applications. Completion of the standard MyERAS application is a requirement.

While we preferentially review applications from those who signal our program, we also consider applicants who do not signal us.  We do not interview candidates who have applied to the preliminary tracks. 

Our team will evaluate complete applications using a holistic review process. We will send interview invitations through the Thalamus scheduling system on October 16, 2025 at 3pm. Our program will conduct virtual interviews starting on October 21, 2025 and continue until early January 2026. Due to the large number of applications, we may continue to review applications through early December and applicants who are not selected for an interview will be notified by December 11, 2025.
