Point of Care Testing
Point of Care Testing (POCT) is performed by non-laboratory personnel at patient bedsides and outpatient facilities. POCT provides immediate laboratory test results, allowing for faster diagnosis and shorter time to treatment.
We monitor all laboratory tests performed outside of the main UVM Health laboratories. All monitored tests have been approved by the Point of Care committee through validation and correlation studies.
To obtain Point of Care Testing, a test request application must be submitted to the Point of Care committee for approval. Once the request is approved, we will help set up programs, training and competencies, and manage testing supplies.
