Growing Your Career
UVM Health is invested in the success of our nursing staff. We offer many ways for you to continually learn and grow, whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out in the nursing field. You’ll find encouragement and support at all levels of the organization, meaning you’ll be supported in practicing at the top of your license and given the resources you need to achieve your career goals.
We believe that the best leaders are developed from within our current workforce. We offer ongoing professional development opportunities to existing and emerging nurse leaders to help you grow, allowing you to learn and share best practices from colleagues from across our health system.
Our Nursing Professional Development Specialists are here to support you in reaching your career goals. Your NPDS is available to share resources, give you access to continuing education opportunities, help you develop and maintain clinical competencies, and create a career plan to help you grow both personally and professionally.
UVM Health’s career development programs, such as the Center for Workforce Development, provide educational opportunities to help you grow in your chosen field.

PTAP accreditation is considered the gold standard for nurse residency programs around the world. We offer the following programs at our partner hospitals:
- Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital: Designed for new graduates entering the workforce to help you gain hands-on nursing experience. Residencies are nine months long, with six program start dates throughout the year.
Nurse residency programs across our health partners are designed to provide new nurses with the knowledge, skills, and critical behaviors needed to be successful starting their new career. Newly graduated nurses will engage with experienced nurses, nurse educators and subject matter experts in a series of classes, hands on skills sessions and precepted clinical experiences.
