Hip Care at UVM Health

Hip pain and injuries can seriously interfere with your quality of life. University of Vermont Health offers coordinated, personalized care from some of the most experienced hip specialists in Vermont and northern New York. We help you get back on your feet and back to the activities you love.

Our approach emphasizes starting with nonsurgical treatments. We only recommend surgery when it’s the most effective option for you. If you do need hip surgery, your care is in the hands of experts with a track record of excellent outcomes. Our hip surgeons have advanced fellowship training that allows us to bring you leading-edge techniques.

Why Choose UVM Health?

As one of the leading orthopedic programs in the region, we offer:

  • Patient-centered care: When you come to us with a hip problem, you’ll meet with specialists who take the time to listen to your concerns and thoroughly explain your treatment options. Together, we create a personalized care plan that works for your needs and goals.
  • Advanced training: Our team includes surgeons who have trained at the top fellowship program in the country for hip arthroscopy, a minimally invasive procedure that requires additional training. Several of our hip surgeons also have advanced fellowship training in hip and knee replacements. These specialized certifications allow us to offer you the most advanced care available.
  • Team-based approach: Together, our team of orthopedic surgeons and advanced practice providers (APPs) reviews each patient’s needs. Their combined expertise ensures you receive the best possible care. Our partnership with APPs expands access to treatment, often allowing you to see a specialist more quickly. We also work closely with physical therapists to help restore function and get back to your usual activities with less pain. We may also refer you to endocrinologists, cardiologists or other specialists to help you manage chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease before surgery, which helps improve outcomes.
  • Research emphasis: As part of a health system anchored by an academic medical center, our physicians are active researchers and physician-leaders, many of whom train the next generation of experts. We are at the forefront of orthopedic care, publishing research and presenting our findings at national meetings. We constantly improve the care we offer by tracking outcomes and staying up to date on the latest technologies and treatments.

My doctor was very thorough and included me in viewing and explaining X-rays. He is collaborative, a great listener and gave me his full attention.
