How Does Cardiac Rehabilitation Improve Heart Health?

Participating in a cardiac rehab program can strengthen your heart, reduce symptoms of a heart condition and improve your recovery after an acute event like a heart attack. Studies have also shown that cardiac rehab can:

  • Improve consistency in taking your heart medications as prescribed
  • Lower your risk of depression
  • Prevent complications of heart disease, including early death
  • Reduce your chances of dying from a heart attack by about 35%

What to Expect

Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program consists of monitored, progressive aerobic exercise. Candidates for this program include all individuals who have had a heart problem (heart attack, heart valve repair and replacement, coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart transplant, etc.). Most insurance companies cover the cost of this program.

We have three treadmills, two bikes, two ellipticals, two rowing machines and six NUSteps to safely help you regain your physical strength, build confidence and work toward a healthier future.

Medical Evaluation

Our team will evaluate your physical abilities, your goals, medical limitations and overall health. This assessment helps the cardiac rehab team personalize a safe and effective rehabilitation plan just for you.

Physical Activity

A primary goal of cardiac rehabilitation is to improve your cardiovascular fitness. We design a plan that may include walking, cycling, jogging, rowing or other aerobic exercise that you enjoy. You may also do strength training to improve your muscle and bone strength.

Lifestyle Education

Lifestyle habits play a big role in heart health. Cardiac rehab includes an individualized plan of lifestyle changes that help reduce heart disease risk factors. Your plan may include recommendations for weight loss, tobacco cessation, nutritional counseling, stress management or cholesterol reduction.

Support

Our team is with you every step of the way, and you’ll get to know other people who are also recovering from heart conditions and procedures. A cardiac rehabilitation program can help you work through fear or anxiety as you find more motivation and energy to adopt an active lifestyle.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Maintenance Program

Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Maintenance Program is for patients who have certain heart conditions that do not qualify for our main program. This is a six-week (18 session) program. This program is not covered by insurance and costs $300.

Some examples of conditions eligible for this program include: congestive heart failure, surgically repaired aortic aneurism, controlled atrial fibrillation, medically managed coronary artery disease, pacemaker, etc.

Cardiac Rehabilitation for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

We offer cardiac rehabilitation programs specifically designed for patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). PAD occurs when the blood vessels (arteries) that supply blood to the legs narrow or become blocked. This is most commonly caused by plaque buildup in the blood vessels (atherosclerosis).
