Advanced Treatment for Life-Threatening Health Issues

When medical emergencies happen to you or a loved one, you want the very best care. At University of Vermont Health, we provide state-of-the-art, coordinated, timely treatment for all types of emergencies.

With locations across Vermont and northern New York, you always have access to specialized care when needed. Our network of emergency departments includes Vermont’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and a safety net hospital, where we provide health care services to all patients, regardless of their financial means.

If you're experiencing chest pain, signs of a stroke, severe abdominal pain or other serious symptoms, call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately.

Why Choose UVM Health?

Patients who choose our emergency services benefit from:

  • Collaborative, specialized care: Our emergency medicine physicians, advanced practice providers and residents work closely with other experts, including stroke specialists, cardiologists and anesthesiologists, to ensure you receive the advanced treatment you need, when you need it. The team includes specialists in toxicology, geriatric care, wilderness medicine and critical care.
  • Pediatric experts: Our pediatric-trained emergency medicine physicians work closely with Golisano Children’s Hospital at University of Vermont Health to coordinate pediatric follow-up or specialty care as needed.
  • Access to high-quality care: You always have access to specialized care through digital health, and our care coordination system ensures we quickly transfer you to higher levels of care when needed.
  • Research emphasis: As part of a health system anchored by an academic medical center, many of our physician-leaders are active researchers who train the next generation of experts. We train residents and pre-hospital providers, such as paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs), in the latest emergency protocols.
