Outpatient Pharmacy
Outpatient Pharmacy at UVM Health
When you have a sudden (acute) illness or long-term (chronic) health condition, medications can be an important part of your treatment. Dedicated pharmacy team members at University of Vermont Health work together to provide convenient access to the prescriptions you need.
Our pharmacists work with your provider to make sure the medications you take are safe, effective and affordable. If your provider is in our network, we use your shared electronic medical record (EMR) to provide seamless team-based care. We verify that the drugs you take interact with each other safely and effectively.
Why Choose UVM Health?
As one of the leading outpatient pharmacy programs in the region, we offer:
- Convenience and extra hours: Many of our retail locations offer extended hours so you can get your prescriptions on your schedule. If you have questions, our on-site pharmacists are there to help.
- Support when you need it: You may have questions about your medications after you get home. The pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians in our local call center are here to answer your questions and help with any medication issues.
- Seamless care transitions: If you’ve received inpatient care, our Meds to Beds program fills your prescriptions and delivers them to your bedside before you’re discharged. You go straight home with no need to stop at a pharmacy.
What to Expect
When you’re not feeling well or have questions that need answers, the last thing you want to do is spend time waiting. We keep our retail pharmacy operations easy, fast and efficient. We offer:
Our pharmacies keep an extensive inventory of acute and maintenance medications to meet the needs of our patients. If we don’t stock a specific medication, we work with your provider to determine the proper alternative for your health needs. You can count on us for the medications you need.
We work with you to help you feel confident when taking a new drug. Our pharmacy experts make sure you understand how to take your medication and any side effects that may occur. Our extensive team means you won’t face long wait times for the help you need.
We can facilitate prior authorizations from your insurance company. If a drug you need isn’t covered, our pharmacist may recommend an alternative medication to meet your needs.
Our team uses a state-of-the-art automated dispensing system in our Vermont-based central service facility to fill prescriptions quickly and accurately. Our pharmacist checks and verifies each prescription to make sure it’s correct.
Manage your prescriptions from the palm of your hand with our UVM Health RX mobile app. Download the app: iOS or Google Play. Our easy-to-use technology lets you:
- Add reminders to take your medication or let you know when it’s time to refill
- Get notified when your prescription is ready
- Request refills
- See your prescription history, including how to take a medication
- Transfer your prescription to UVM Health from another pharmacy
- Receive important updates from your pharmacy team
Don’t want to stop at the pharmacy? Our mail-order pharmacy services deliver your prescriptions right to your door. No matter where you’re located in Vermont and northern New York, or if you’re traveling, we ship your medications to you for free.
Health Assistance Program
Our Health Assistance Program (HAP) helps eligible low- and middle-income families get prescription medications at no cost, even if you have insurance.
Meds to Beds for Hospital to Home
If you’ve received inpatient care, our Meds to Beds program makes sure you have the medications you need before you’re discharged. Our pharmacy team fills your medications and delivers them right to your bedside, so you can go home without having to stop at a pharmacy.
Our team works with your care team to facilitate prior authorizations and will help you work through any issues with the cost or availability of your medication. We also do a comprehensive medication review with you to ensure a seamless transition from inpatient care to home.
