Inpatient Pediatrics
Inpatient Pediatrics at Golisano Children's Hospital
Staying in the hospital can be stressful for kids and their families. At Golisano Children’s Hospital at University of Vermont Health, we intentionally designed our inpatient unit to be a child-friendly, family-centered space where our team of hospitalists, nurses, social workers, Child Life specialists and other pediatric experts work together to care for hospitalized children.
Our 20-bed Inpatient Pediatric Unit is a supportive, nurturing environment that reflects our dedication to compassionate treatment and our commitment to bringing your child the most advanced care.
Why Choose Golisano Children's Hospital?
We offer:
- Family-centered rounds: We are experts in medical care, but you are the expert in your child. We partner with you to coordinate your child’s treatment, communicate about their needs and plan discharge from the hospital.
- Coordinated care: Our inpatient providers collaborate with specialists throughout Golisano Children’s Hospital so your child receives comprehensive treatment. We coordinate with your child’s regular providers to ensure seamless transitions to outpatient care.
- Research emphasis: As part of a health system anchored by an academic medical center, our physicians are active researchers, many of whom are training the next generation of experts.
Inpatient Pediatric Services
We offer a wide range of supportive services to make your child’s stay as comfortable as possible. Our services include:
We offer massage, music and pet therapy. These resources provide comfort and help children feel more at ease during their stay.
The unit includes two specially designed play areas: one for younger children and another for adolescents and teens. The playrooms offer a place for children to interact with siblings, family members and volunteers, read books, play games or complete schoolwork.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a quiet space where families can eat a meal, get a snack or drink a cup of coffee and take a break for a few moments. A washer and dryer on the floor allow us to provide laundry services.
Our volunteers provide crucial support to help families feel more relaxed. They routinely check on families, sit in rooms with children, play games and supervise kids in the play areas.
Child Life Program
Medical care can be overwhelming for children. Our Child Life Specialists help your child cope with stress, prepare for procedures and understand their care. These highly trained specialists offer your family support as you navigate our health system.
