Interventional Cardiology

Interventional Cardiology at UVM Health

Interventional cardiology specializes in minimally invasive procedures — such as cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, stenting and structural heart procedures — to diagnose and treat heart diseases.

At University of Vermont Health, our team of expert interventional cardiologists have a long history of providing cutting-edge, life-saving care to patients with coronary, vascular and structural heart conditions. We personalize our care approach to your needs so that you receive individualized, effective treatment no matter where you live in Vermont and northern New York.

Why Choose UVM Health?

As one of the leading heart and vascular programs in the region, we offer:

  • Advanced treatments: Our interventional cardiologists use minimally invasive catheter-based techniques to perform complex procedures without open-chest surgery.
  • Academic emphasis: As part of a health system anchored by an academic medical center, our physicians are active researchers and have trained at some of the most prestigious institutions in the nation. We participate in many multicenter clinical trials of novel device therapies for coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease.
  • Life-saving innovations: Our heart, anesthesia and perfusion teams use the latest technologies to treat our sickest patients using ECMO, an advanced form of life support for patients experiencing serious temporary cardiac and respiratory conditions.
  • Patient-centered care: We work to understand your preferences and listen to your concerns before we recommend a treatment plan. Our cardiologists meet with patients daily while they recover in the hospital and continue follow-up care to help you get well after your procedure.

Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that opens narrowed or blocked blood vessels to allow blood to flow through more easily.

Minimally invasive mitral valve procedures are non-surgical treatment options to treat heart valve disease that can improve symptoms, including shortness of breath and fatigue.

Catheter-based procedures, such as tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (T-TEER) reduce tricuspid valve leakage by partially closing the valve with a clip.

PCI, also known as coronary angioplasty, is a non-surgical procedure that uses a catheter technique to clear a blocked or narrowed artery.
