ICU Nurse's Care Inspires Donation to Hospital

“Julia is a caring, diligent nurse who goes above and beyond for her patients every day."

Julia Tansor and ICU Team at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital

A Plattsburgh couple touched by a dedicated nurse’s care has donated to The Foundation of Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in her honor.

The patient was rushed to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital needing emergent care, including dialysis. Julia Tansor, RN was among those providing care for the patient during a stay in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Fortunately, the couple happened to live close by to Tansor and she volunteered to help them out when she wasn't working.

Tansor, who has been with the hospital for 13 years, says she just wanted to help in any way that she could.

“It’s a sense of community. We want to care for each other,” she adds. “We’ve all been through a very difficult period of time (during the pandemic), and it’s been tough for people who have been home bound at times.”

In a brief note included with the couple’s donation, they shared their deep appreciation for Tansor’s commitment and compassionate care, writing, “Thank you to Julia for sharing her expertise and her heart during our difficult time.”

“Julia is a caring, diligent nurse who goes above and beyond for her patients every day, even outside of the hospital,” Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital ICU Nurse Manager Cayla Ventre, BSN, RN noted. “She is never sitting, always looking for ways to support our patients or her colleagues. The ICU and our patients are lucky to have her!”

Because of Tansor’s effort, the couple donated to The Foundation through its Share a Thank You program, which allows patients to pay tribute to any hospital team member who offers meaningful comfort and care throughout their experience. The Foundation presented Tansor with a certificate and a pin during a surprise ceremony with her ICU colleagues in recognition of the gift and the excellent care she provided.

“It’s wonderful and unbelievable to get recognized like that, but it really is a team effort,” Tansor says. “I love the team. All the different units (throughout the hospital), we all seem to work well together. The sense of camaraderie has been wonderful.”
