Charitable gifts help us push the boundaries of clinical care, research and training — coming ever closer to treatments that impact people across our region, and millions more around the globe.
Find a Cause You Care About
University of Vermont Medical Center is a key driver of human health and well-being in Vermont and northern New York. But we’re much more than a first-class hospital; we’re also a hub of medical research, training and education for the entire region.
As an academic medical center, in partnership with University of Vermont’s Larner College of Medicine and College of Nursing and Health Sciences, we are shaping the future of medicine. We are expanding clinical expertise, helping educators prepare students to better care for patients and helping students grow beyond medical knowledge into clinical wisdom. Research is at the heart of our mission. These efforts are bringing new hope for patients with cancer, cardiovascular disease and numerous other health conditions.
Make an Impact With Your Gift
No matter the size of your gift or where you choose to invest, you are part of something extraordinary.
Here are a few of the areas in which your donations will have significant, immediate impact. If your interests lie outside of these initiatives, let’s explore, together, other meaningful opportunities for your giving.
By giving unrestricted dollars to the UVM Medical Center Fund, you support areas of greatest need. The fund touches every aspect of our mission and supports the full spectrum of priorities at our hospital. With your donation, you join thousands of other community donors in transforming health care in our region.
To ensure the best use of your contributions, we have established a grant program to distribute a portion of the annual fund to employee-identified initiatives. A committee of employees, patients and volunteers chooses which projects to support. A few examples of projects selected for recent grants include:
- Critical Need for Wheelchair Equipment in Acute Care: This grant will enable the purchase of specialized wheelchair equipment that varies in size, dimensions and functions, enhancing patient-centered training and reducing the risk of skin breakdown, atrophy and cardiopulmonary complications. Having the proper equipment for our patients will improve patient care and operational efficiency by equipping therapists with tools to provide equitable, evidence-based care.
- Food & Mood - A pilot program for group visits in Primary Care Mental Health Integration: Food & Mood is a group visit for patients that will recur each quarter and include unique sessions on anxiety and depression that change with the season. It is a low-cost model for increasing patient access to mental health and culinary medicine across UVM Health.
- Exploring Caregiver Interventions for Prevention of Long Hospital Stays of Persons with Dementia: Patients with dementia often occupy beds within the hospital intended for patients with urgent health issues, which negatively impacts the hospital's ability to deliver care. This program is a research study on how best to prevent long-stay hospitalization of dementia patients by looking at literature, medical records and interviewing patients, families and caregivers.
UVM Cancer Center is the only comprehensive clinical and research cancer center in Vermont and northern New York. Each year, thousands of patients and families in our community seek our care. Your donations help deliver:
- Advanced treatments that lead to better outcomes for children and adults with cancer
- Compassionate support services that make patients’ cancer journeys a little easier, such as social work, massage therapy and support groups
- Education and prevention programs that help improve early detection of cancer or prevent it altogether
- World-class research that translates the latest scientific findings into life-saving cancer therapies
Golisano Children’s Hospital at UVM Health is our region’s only full-service children’s hospital. Our expert, child-friendly and family-centered care changes lives and delivers innovative services, treatments and procedures for the youngest and often most vulnerable patients. Charitable gifts impact local children through:
- Expanded pediatric patient services, such as child abuse screening and mental health support
- Life-saving equipment
- Pediatric research that drives breakthroughs and cures
- Charitable care
- Educational resources
- Grants for innovative employee-led projects, new initiatives and technology
We want to treat every patient who needs us, but our facilities have reached their limit. The solution is an Outpatient Surgery Center where we can deliver the expert care patients need as close to home as possible and in the most appropriate, modern setting. A philanthropic gift to support the Outpatient Surgery Center is an investment in health care for you, your loved ones and your neighbors. Shorter wait times, better access and a convenient setting means more Vermonters and northern New Yorkers will get the expert care they need.
Why Give to the Outpatient Surgery Center?

As part of an academic medical Center, UVM Medical Center, in partnership with University of Vermont's Larner College of Medicine and College of Nursing and Health Sciences, brings research, medical education and state-of-the-art patient care under one umbrella. Our clinicians and scientists pioneer new treatments and therapies that set the standard of care around the world. They also work to find more effective models of health care delivery in order to reduce costs, eliminate barriers to care to improve prevention programs, treatment outcomes and health equity.
Your investment ensures continued progress in these efforts.
Shortages in our health care workforce can impact the availability and delivery of care in our community. UVM Medical Center is creating solutions to strengthen our workforce from both within and outside of our walls. With your support, we’re developing initiatives for:
- Employee retention and training
- Experiential learning and apprenticeships in highly skilled fields
- Strategic partnerships with local, regional and online universities to create health care-related learning pathways
- Supplemental training programs for non-traditional adult and youth students

Art Gallery at UVM Medical Center
Our art collection contains over 1,500 works of art from New England artists to provide comfort and inspiration to patients, visitors and staff alike. This virtual art gallery was funded through philanthropic donations. Enjoy!
I donated to recognize the doctors and nurses, but I also did it for myself. It made me feel good and right. I’m thinking that’s probably the biggest check I ever wrote except for me buying a house. It was just as important to me.
