Breast imaging is a specialized field that includes a number of diagnostic breast exams, including mammography. Mammography uses low-level X-ray to detect changes in breast tissue. It's an important tool in the early detection of breast cancer. The University of Vermont Medical Center's Breast Imaging Service offers a full range of diagnostic options to patients in Burlington, VT, and northern New York.

Mammography Specialists in Burlington, VT

At The UVM Medical Center, our radiologists perform a high volume of mammograms—more than 25,000 a year—on state-of-the-art digital equipment. This leads to better detection and more accurate findings for patients because experience matters. Studies have shown the more mammograms a radiologist reads, the more accurate the results.

Do You Need a Mammogram?

If you are a woman age 40 or older and in good health, the American Cancer Society recommends you have a mammogram every year. Mammography is an important tool in early detection of breast cancer. Screening mammograms are for patients without symptoms such as breast tenderness, discharge, swelling or new lumps. If you have symptoms, please contact your primary care provider.
