The University of Vermont Family Medicine Residency Program at the UVM Medical Center accepts applications for residency ONLY via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

The UVM Family Medicine Residency Program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

ALL INTERVIEWS ARE BEING CONDUCTED VIRTUALLY AT THIS TIME.

Invitations to interview will be sent out via Thalamus/email on or after October 6th, 2022. Our first interview date is October 17, 2022.

  • Personal Statement
  • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE or “Dean’s Letter”)
  • Medical School Transcripts
  • A minimum of 3 recent letters of reference from direct supervisors
  • Successful completion of USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Level 1
  • Successful completion of USMLE Step 2 or COMLEX Level 2 must be submitted prior to the Rank Order List Deadline (as determined by the NRMP)

LCME, COCA, or CACMS Accredited Medical Schools

  • Full applications must be submitted via ERAS prior to the deadline. Applications will not be reviewed, nor will a response be sent to an application sent via email.
  • Application deadline is December 1st, with all materials needing to be received by December 31st.
  • In order to be considered for ranking, successful completion of USMLE Steps 1 and 2 and/or COMLEX Level 1 and 2 must be submitted prior to the Rank Order List Deadline
  • Photographs are not required to complete your ERAS application. However having a photograph on file is very helpful to us, particularly once you are scheduled for an interview
  • We currently require that you have graduated medical school within the last two years. Previous graduates will not be considered.

  • We require at least 6 months of documented clinical experience in the United States within the last two years (Note: Observerships do not fulfill this requirement)
  • You must be eligible for a J-1 Visa, or have U.S. Citizenship, or Permanent Resident status. No other Visas will be accepted or sponsored (H1B are not accepted)
  • Current medical students must receive their certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) before beginning their residency training. Applicants who have completed their medical school training must have a current and valid certification from the ECFMG in order to be considered. If you do not have this certificate, you will need to contact the ECFMG directly
  • The Vermont Department of Health, Board of Medical Practice currently uses the Medical Board of California’s list of recognized schools, or schools with World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) recognition to grant licensure.
  • If you are unsure whether your school can be licensed within the State of Vermont, please call the Vermont Medical Board directly at 802-657-4220 to confirm.
