Charitable gifts help us push the boundaries of clinical care, research and training and transform “what’s possible” for human health in the face of cancer illnesses.
Find a Cause You Care About
UVM Cancer Center is a research institute, an educational entity, a community organization and a clinical care facility all in one. Our "four pillars" — research, education, community outreach and clinical care — support our mission to reduce the burden of cancer in Vermont, northeastern New York and across northern New England with a special emphasis on improving outcomes for rural residents.
Make an Impact With Your Gift
No matter the size of your gift or where you choose to invest, you are part of something extraordinary.
Here are examples of core areas in which your donations will have significant, immediate impact. If your interests lie outside these initiatives, contact Lindsay Longe, Lindsay.Longe@uvmhealth.org, 802-656-4014 to explore other meaningful opportunities for your giving.
As a leading cancer program in the region, we offer:
National accreditation: Our program has received accreditation and is an authorized treatment center for stem cell transplant and CAR-T cell therapy. This achievement reflects the expertise of our physicians and a commitment to meeting national standards for quality and safety.
Education and support: Our cancer care teams include a dedicated nurse coordinator to provide education and guidance throughout treatment, social workers to provide emotional support and help navigate common challenges and other supportive care services such as health coaching, support groups and rehabilitation programs.
UVM Cancer Center also collaborates with community organizations and clinical sites outside UVM Health to facilitate referral care, clinical research, cancer prevention, screening and education.
Today’s research drives tomorrow’s advancements in care, breakthrough treatments and life-saving preventions. Our research programs facilitate discoveries in innovative science and clinical trials, as well as focus on cancer control and outcomes across the continuum of cancer care. Our research aims to translate discoveries into practical applications that directly benefit patients and improve both individual health outcomes and overall community health.
CAR-T cell therapy is one of our active areas of research. Scientists are working to develop new CAR-T cell therapies, make existing ones more effective and expand the use of this technology to different types of cancer. As part of a health system anchored by an academic medical center, our specialists lead clinical trials that give eligible patients access to new treatments before they become widely available.
Charitable support not only helps fuel our research programs but also inspires the next generation of cancer scientists and clinicians and opens doors to mentoring programs that help talented early career researchers thrive on their path.
Our Community Outreach and Engagement team’s goals are:
- Assess the cancer burden and define the catchment area in Vermont and northern New York and identify key cancer issues in the area.
- Engage in evidence-based education and outreach efforts in collaboration with community stakeholders to reduce the cancer burden within the catchment area.
- Promote research across the UVM Cancer Center that addresses key cancer issues within the catchment area, including collaboration with community stakeholders.
Key outreach campaigns include:
- Sun Safety: Vermont has one of the highest melanoma rates in the country. This campaign brings cancer prevention materials, sun safety education and annual skin checks to rural communities.
- Lung Screening: With higher than national rates of tobacco use in our area, we work with health systems and cancer coalitions to increase early detection rates and educate communities and primary care providers about lung screening guidelines.
- Breast Cancer: 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer. We work closely with community partners to increase mammography screening for populations with lower-than-average screening rates and support breast cancer survivors throughout our region.

Across UVM Cancer Center, expanding resources for patients with cancer — and their families — is a top priority. Charitable gifts to our Cancer Patient Supportive Services Fund help remove financial barriers to treatment and sustain valuable programs and educational initiatives.
For example, the fund delivers direct support to patients facing financial challenges by providing ferry passes, gas cards, lodging and meal vouchers that enable them to get to their treatment appointments. The fund also opens doors to integrative therapies and other programmatic resources that help relieve suffering, improve care and quality of life, support healthy lifestyles, and build resiliency and self-empowerment. Personalized plans include offerings such as acupuncture, yoga, massage, rehabilitation, support networks and more.
