Our Priority Initiatives for Our Community

The people of central Vermont understand the value of having health care close to home. For over 60 years, we’ve been here for you when you need us most — at every stage of life.

We depend on your donations to help us continue to provide the high-quality care you expect and deserve. With your support we’re able to improve our care environment, strengthen our workforce and so much more. Read our annual Philanthropy Impact Report to learn more about the lasting contributions our donors have made to our organization.

To maintain our key role in the health of our community, we’ve identified the following focus areas for you to consider when donating. You can also contact us to direct your gift to an area of specific interest.

Central Vermont Medical Center Annual Fund

Contributions to the Central Vermont Medical Center Annual Fund help us provide trusted, expert care to the patients and residents we serve. Donations to the Fund from our generous community go where they are needed most to help us meet our mission.

This includes ensuring our incredible health care team has the equipment and resources they need to provide high-quality care, as well as support for vulnerable Vermonters across our region. We are unwavering in our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of all people who live, work, and play in Central Vermont.

Branches of Hope Cancer Patient Fund

Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be an incredibly challenging time. When financial strains add to the burden, our patients and caregivers can turn to the Central Vermont Medical Center Branches of Hope Cancer Patient Fund.

Our Branches of Hope Fund provides much needed resources for our community members who are grappling with a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Established in 2010, the fund helps individuals and families with both routine and unexpected expenses related to housing, transportation, medical services and much more. Sometimes the small grant enables the person to complete treatment. Sometimes it helps the person sleep at night. Always, it gives hope.

The Branches of Hope Cancer Patient Fund is available to all cancer patients in Central Vermont. At Central Vermont Medical Center, we see thousands of patients at our Radiation Oncology and Hematology Oncology clinics each year and volumes are increasing. We anticipate requests for support from Branches of Hope will continue to accelerate in future years.

Nursing and Clinical Pathways Fund

Established by Central Vermont Medical Center in 2019, the Nursing and Clinical Pathways Program is driven by the need to fill the gap in the growing shortage of nurses. The program supports our own community members to be employed locally and boosts their economic mobility. Through flexible scheduling, onsite classes and clinical hours, and financial support, we are removing barriers to help promising, diverse, candidates earn new licenses and certifications while employed by Central Vermont Medical Center.

In collaboration with Community College of Vermont (CCV) and Vermont State University, UVM Health employees can choose from over seven different nursing and clinical career pathways. Our programs are coordinated across UVM Health allowing us to be nimble in our approach and to maximize our dollars in the best possible way.

We are immensely grateful for the support received from our donors to date and are proud that Central Vermont Medical Center has been a pioneer among UVM Health partner hospitals in paving the way for Pathway programs. This program would not exist without philanthropic support from our community. This is groundbreaking work in so many areas, and we are humbled by the local response to supporting both our community and health care in Vermont.

Health Care Share Fund

The Central Vermont Medical Center Health Care Share Fund helps support our partnership with the Vermont Youth Conversation Corps (VYCC) as we connect our patients to fresh, certified Organic food grown at the VYCC farm, powered by youth engagement. Contributions to this fund from our employees and donors like you have helped to increase access to local food for Vermonters experiencing chronic health issues, diet-related illnesses and food insecurity.

Central Vermont Medical Center providers and Community Health team members enroll patients who pick up weekly shares each week in Berlin, Barre, Northfield, Montpelier and Waterbury. From June to November, the program supports our patients and their families to eat more vegetables and healthy proteins, reduce medications, try new foods and recipes and achieve better health outcomes.

With 168 shares, we reach over 400 household members each season.

Central Vermont Prevention Coalition Fund

Central Vermont Prevention Coalition (CVPC) is a multi-stakeholder group established in 2015 through Central Vermont Medical Center's Emergency Department to help build strong, healthy communities free from the harms of opioid and other substance misuse. The CVPC has pioneered local efforts to address substance use in Central Vermont.

To date, the work has been made possible with grant funding and philanthropic support. Having completed capacity building and strategic plan, Central Vermont Medical Center is now seeking support for CVPC to expand its work in our region, share the model with the rest of UVM Health, and continue sharing results and innovations across the country.
