The University of Vermont Medical Center provides child psychiatric care through the Vermont Center for Children, Youth and Families directly in Burlington and via our eHealth (teleconference) program.
Our clinical team includes board-certified child psychiatrists, child psychologists, nurse practitioners, child psychiatry fellows, and resident physicians.
The Vermont Center for Children, Youth and Families
The Pediatric Psychiatry clinic at the Vermont Center for Children, Youth and Families offers child and adolescent psychiatry assessment and treatment using a family based approach. We provide diagnostic services using both the standard DSM format and the internationally known Achenbach system of empirically-based assessment (ASEBA).
There is limited space for ongoing cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy. Due to a critical shortage of child psychiatrists both nationally and locally, there may be a wait of several months before patients can be seen.
eHealth
The primary patient benefits of eHealth child psychiatrist visits are flexibility, convenience, and confidentiality.
What is eHealth?
eHealth allows child psychiatry fellows to perform evaluations using videoconferencing technology.
VCCYF Burlington is the base of the eHealth program and is connected to four primary care centers across the state of Vermont: St Johnsbury, Richford, Rutland and Plainfield.
The wait time for a eHealth evaluation tends to be much shorter than a Burlington in-person visit. Families should contact their primary care clinician affiliated with one of these sites to begin the evaluation process.

Pediatric Psychiatry
How to refer a patient to Pediatric Psychiatry at the UVM Children's Hospital:
Referral Form: Download the Pediatric Psychiatry Clinic Referral form.
Our pediatric psychiatry clinic is for patients under the age of 18. Please fill out the referral form for the Pediatric Psychiatry Clinic and fax back to the number listed at the top.
Make sure to fill out all fields including listing both parents involved or making note if only one parent is involved in the child’s care. Attach any related testing/labs/IEPs/504s that relate to what you wish to have the child seen for.
Once the form is completed, a packet will be sent to the family to be completed and returned to our office. Once the completed packet is returned the child is placed on a waitlist and scheduled when an evaluation time becomes available. Please be advised that the time to be contacted can vary greatly based on availability.

Autism Assessment Program
How to refer a patient to the Autism Assessment Program at the UVM Children's Hospital:
Referral Form: Download the Autism Assessment Program Referral form.
Please note that the Autism Assessment Program is a diagnosis-only program for patients suspected of having Autism and cannot provide ongoing care. All patients referred must be a Vermont resident and referred prior to their 8th birthday. We do not perform second opinions.
Please completely fill out the attached two-page referral form and fax back to the number listed at the top of the form. Attach any relevant testing/labs/IEPs/504s along with the referral. The family will be mailed a packet to complete and return to the office.
