About Me

I grew up in Richmond, Vermont, and I love caring for the community where I was raised. I have expertise in managing benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, including oropharyngeal cancers treated with robotic surgery.

My clinical focus also includes head and neck ultrasound, thyroid cancer, parathyroid surgery, parotid tumors, sinonasal tumors, head and neck reconstructive surgery and craniofacial trauma.

Outside of work, I enjoy backcountry skiing, mountain biking, canoeing and spending time with my wife, dogs and children.

  • Dr. Self and his resident explained all procedures to me and answered all my questions.
  • He is a wonderful communicator!
  • Dr. Self was courteous, friendly, empathic and knowledgeable. He helped remove some leftover surgical glue from the incision site. And he was so considerate to think about and give directions to his staff, to coordinate my next appt with him, with my visit to the radiation oncologist, so that I was only making one trip into Burlington.
  • When you are older, you may need a pillow, I had to hold my head up and said I will need a pillow for the aspirationthen I was given a pillow
  • It was a very good experience
  • I was very pleased with the time with my provider. He understood my concerns and instead of waiting to do a biopsy on the lymph node since there were pathologist already in the office he wanted to do a biopsy right then and there he said if they could not take time to take a look at the pathology or they weren't there then he would've rescheduled me for A day next week. Thankfully, they were able to do the biopsy on my lymph node right then and there and I got the results right back and there were no thyroid cells in my lymph nodes so the cancer had not spread.
  • I felt very included in decision making. Dr Self was very thorough in his explanation of my care
  • The Dr and Medical student were kind ,courteous and helpful
