At University of Vermont Health, we want to help patients make the best choices for their health care. That’s why we share star ratings and comments from other patients. Seeing how others felt about their care can help patients find the right provider with confidence.
How Do We Collect Ratings and Comments?
Our ratings and comments come from patient surveys administered by Press Ganey, an independent research group. The questionnaires use the nationally-recognized Patient Satisfaction Survey.
The data is derived from specific, provider-patient relationship questions that are asked after a visit has been completed. Patients are asked to rate the below items based on their visit and then are provided an open text comment section.
- How much the provider cared about your questions or worries
- How well the provider explained your problem or condition
- How much the provider included you in decisions about your care
- How well the provider discussed treatment options, risks and benefits
- How likely you are to recommend the provider to others
- The friendliness and courtesy of the provider
- The instructions the provider gave you about follow-up care
- How well the provider used words you could understand
The Patient Rating score is an average of the responses, rated from 1 to 5, with 5 being the best.
Why Don’t Some Providers Have a Star Rating or Comments?
We only show star ratings for providers who have received 30 or more survey responses in the past year. This helps ensure that the data is accurate and current. We display comments when a provider has received five or more comments in the same time period.
Are All Comments Shown?
Comments come directly from the patient surveys and are shown over a 12-month period. If you recently submitted a comment, it may appear in future updates. While we publish both positive and negative comments, we review and remove any that are profane, libelous, unrelated to the provider or violate patient privacy.
How Do We Protect Your Information?
All patient survey responses are stored on a secure, password-protected server. Patient names are not displayed, and comments containing personal, identifiable information are not published.
