Community to Gather in Support of Local Heart Disease Survivors at Stepping Out for Your Heart

Foundation of CVPH’s evening of inspiration, education and awareness is February 26

Plattsburgh, NY - On Thursday, Feb. 26, the community will gather to support their friends and neighbors with heart disease and raise awareness about the leading cause of death for women. The Foundation of CVPH’s Stepping Out for Your Heart at the West Side Ballroom will be an evening of education, inspiration and fundraising and tickets are on sale now.

Registration begins at 5 pm. Tickets are $65 each or $55 for those age 65 and older. They can be purchased at www.uvmhealth.org/CVPHHeart, in the Foundation Office or by calling Manager of Events and Special Project Michelle Senecal at (518) 314-3359 or email, msenecal@cvph.org.

Cardiologists Joel Wolkowicz and Eric Gauthier will present “The Heart and It’s Care Close to Home” and local heart disease survivor MaryAnn Castine will share how surviving a heart attack changed her life. The evening will also include several interactive stations, a heart-healthy dinner, silent and live auctions.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women, and many of those deaths, according to the American Heart Association, can be prevented through greater awareness of cardiovascular health, symptoms, risk factors, and lifestyle changes. The nationally recognized cardiology team at CVPH offers cutting-edge cardiac care close to home and is dedicated to educating patients and their families about the disease so they can recognize warning signs early, make informed decisions, and take proactive steps to protect their heart health.

Proceeds from the event will benefit CVPH’s new Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab Center. The $1.3 million construction project, when complete, will offer a larger space on the main campus to house the hospital’s successful Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and add a similar service for pulmonary patients. Cardiac Rehabilitation is a supervised exercise, education and support program focused on returning patients who have had a heart attack, valve replacement, angioplasty or bypass surgery to their optimum level of health. Similarly, Pulmonary Rehabilitation provides patients with chronic lung conditions an individualized program to help them breathe better, build endurance and improve the quality of their life. Education, support and supervised exercise are also key components of Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Stepping Out for Your Heart is graciously supported by Monaghan Medical Corporation, Liquor and Wine Warehouse, Della Auto Group, Brennan Buick GMC, Community Bank, Plattco, AES Northeast, SeaComm Federal Credit Union, The Development Corporation, Warren Tire, Kimberly Titherington, UFirst Federal Credit Union, AmeriCU Credit Union, Stafford Owens Murnane Kelleher Miller Meyer & Zedick and Northeast Group.
