A Storied History
University of Vermont Medical Center, its three founding organizations and the Larner College of Medicine at UVM, share a rich history dating back to the 1800s.
- 1822: The Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont is established.
- 1879: Mary Fletcher Hospital opens.
- 1894: The Fanny Allen Hospital opens.
- 1967: Mary Fletcher Hospital renamed Medical Center Hospital of Vermont.
- 1971: The University Health Center forms.
- 1974: UVM Cancer Treatment Center is founded.
- Early 1990’s: Larner College, Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, Fanny Allen Hospital and University Health Center combine to form Fletcher Allen Health Care — now known as University of Vermont Medical Center.
- 2014: Groundbreaking TAVR heart valve procedure tested at Fletcher Allen/UVM approved by FDA
- 2019: Miller Building opens June 1, offering four floors of single occupancy rooms
- 2019: Steve Leffler, MD, named President and COO
