- Sessions presented by dermatology faculty, residents and MSDO fellow
- MSDO fellow attends (or presents) lectures relevant to dermatologic surgery including the following sessions: Coding and billing, surgical anatomy of the head and neck, local anesthetics and pain management, electrosurgery, suture material, instruments and techniques, cutaneous laser surgery, rational approach to treating AKs & BCCs, flap nomenclature and movement, surgical technique and complications, systemic anticancer agents, botox and filler, wound care, familial cancer syndromes, miscellaneous cosmetics, dermoscopy and transplant medicine
Clinicicopathologic conference (CPC)
Weekly
- Case based conference in which patients are presented by resident, fellow or dermatology faculty and dermatopathology fellow presents the patient’s pathology
Grand Rounds
Monthly
- Patients viewed (live and images) followed by pathologic correlation and discussion
- Presented by dermatology chief resident and dermatopathology fellow
- MSDO faculty and fellow attend and participate in discussion
Dermatologic Surgery Journal Club
Monthly
- Residents present and lead discussion of relevant articles from the journal of Dermatologic Surgery
- MSDO faculty and fellow attend and facilitate discussions
Mohs Journal Club
Quarterly
- Fellow and MSDO faculty meet quarterly for dinner and discussion of select scientific papers relevant to Mohs surgery and reconstruction
- Fellows and faculty each select and present one to two papers each
Vermont Dermatological Society Meeting
Annually
- Grand Rounds format with patient presentations and discussion of diseases; dermatology chief resident and dermatopathology fellow present cases; guest speakers present lectures

- Dermatology residents present a summary of interesting in-patient consultations seen in the previous 6 months
- MSDO fellow and faculty attend and participate in discussions
Practice-based learning sessions (PBL)
Biannual
- Residents present evidence-based medicine approaches to clinical questions to develop best practices that improve patient experiences, reduce inefficiencies and redundancies, and result in optimal and equitable patient care outcomes
- MSDO fellow and faculty attend and participate in discussions when topic is relevant to the practice of Mohs surgery
Morbidity and Mortality Conference
Triannual
- Review and discussion of clinical cases with poor or unexpected outcomes to identify areas for improvement in patient care and enhance medical education
- Case-based presentations and discussions led by MSDO fellow or faculty
Reconstructive surgery lecture series
Ad hoc
- Presentations provided to fellow by Dr. Holmes on topics related to reconstructive surgery
- Topics covered include: bilobed & trilobed flaps, island pedicle flaps, forehead interpolation flaps, nasolabial interpolation flaps, postauricular interpolation flaps, cartilage grafting, rotation flaps, transposition flaps, reconstruction of the lip, reconstruction of the scalp, reconstruction of the nose, reconstruction of the ear, advancement flaps and skin grafts, healing by second intention, distal digital amputations and cross finger flaps, perioperative management in dermatologic surgery
UVM Dermatology Winter CME Conference
Annual three-day conference in Stowe, VT
- Fellow delivers a podium presentation on a topic relevant to Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology
- Fellow attends conference that includes educational sessions presented by UVM and invited faculty
American College of Mohs Surgery Meeting
National annual meeting for Mohs surgery professionals composed of five days of educational sessions and presentations
- Fellow attends and will have the opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in the field and engage in in-depth discussions on various topics related to micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology
- Fellows are encouraged to submit an abstract with an opportunity to present if the abstract is selected for presentation
