About Me

My journey in medicine has been driven by a deep commitment to advancing equitable human health through learning, research and clinical practice. Over the years, I’ve developed extensive expertise in preventive medicine — particularly in preventing the progression of kidney disease — as well as in various aspects of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis care.

One of the most exciting milestones in my career has been the development of the Hemodialysis Filter Rotator, a novel approach to achieving anticoagulation-free hemodialysis. This innovation was created in collaboration with the University of Vermont College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences and the University of Vermont Center for Biomedical Innovation between 2022 and 2023.

My research continues to focus on improving kidney care, understanding medication-related kidney injury and developing safer, more effective dialysis technologies.

I find great fulfillment in making critical observations, forming thoughtful hypotheses and testing them — often leading to accurate diagnoses, effective treatments and full patient recovery. These moments have not only shaped my clinical practice but have also led to the publication of journal articles that are read around the world. Many of my publications reflect these joyful and transformative experiences.

The most rewarding part of my work is listening to patients and their families share their journeys from severe illness to full recovery. I also find deep meaning in participating in philanthropic efforts — whether at the individual, community, national or international level — as they reflect my values of fairness and justice.

The most rewarding part of my work is listening to patients and their families share their journeys from severe illness to full recovery.
