About Me

I chose a career in medicine to have the unbelievable privilege of caring for another person. As a surgical oncologist, I often see patients with difficult diagnoses. My goal is to collaborate with them and, through shared decision making, come up with a plan that best fits their goals and values. I see this opportunity to counsel patients and determine the best path forward as the most rewarding part of my job. I feel fortunate that, as a surgeon, I can continue to see my patients regularly and value these long-term relationships.

Among the top conditions I treat are liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, GI malignancy, cutaneous malignancy and peritoneal surface malignancy. I perform a variety of specialized procedures, including open and laparoscopic liver and pancreatic surgery, laparoscopic-assisted esophagectomy and minimally invasive GI surgery.

My clinical interests include GI tract malignancies, esophagus cancer, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, hepatopancreaticobiliary cancer and melanoma. My research interests are focused on tumor microenvironments, tumor ablative therapies and population health and screening.

I chose a career in medicine to have the unbelievable privilege of caring for another person.

  • Dr. O'Neill is amazing. We have already recommended him to others!
  • Dr O'Neill was fabulous from the moment he started speaking. He allayed my fears about having cancer from the start, and I didn't have to mention it. He knew I'd be worried about that. He drew a diagram fo me of the area that is involved, what he surgery would be, and the treatment plan as well as anticipated outcomes. He allowed time to answer questions and was very clear with communication using terms we could understand. It was an excellent appointment. He really helped me (and my husband) really understand the situation and what to expect.
