I find it rewarding to make a tangible difference in my patients' quality of life and improve their health.
Rheumatology is a particularly fulfilling specialty because it allows me to build meaningful relationships with my patients over time.
My areas of expertise include inflammatory arthritis, gout and systemic autoimmune disorders. My care philosophy is centered on effective communication and shared decision-making with my patients.

I feel like I hit the jackpot when I was sent to Dr. Thoms, it's a bit of a drive, but well worth it. He is kind, friendly and I really feel like he cares about helping me feel better. Instructions are clear, and done verbally for my feedback, and then in writing, so I can refer to them as needed.
Oh my goodness, I feel so very lucky to have Dr. Thoms as my Rheumatologist. I had a very bad experience at the office at the main campus. He is always kind, extremely knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. I don't mind the drive, even during the snow store with black ice yesterday, if I could see him. UVM is very lucky to have him on staff. I especially appreciate the instructions were verbal and typed up for me, lest I forget.
Dr Thoms is very professional, knowledgeable and really cares that he has answered every question you have before leaving. He didn't rush me either.

They did the best they could at the time. Contacting the doctor and setting up the visit. Once it was set up they left the room. With my hearing not being good I feel that Dr. Thoms did the best he could.
