About Me

I've been a practicing geriatrician for over 20 years in both ambulatory care (primary care and consults) and in the hospital setting. I joined University of Vermont Medical Center as the Associate Chief for Clinical Affairs for the Division of Geriatrics. I have extensive experience caring for very complex and frail patients who are on multiple medications and have many medical problems often complicated by memory loss and/or depression.

I've always enjoyed interacting with older individuals, even before I started my career. Taking care of complex problems and spending a lot of time with patients and their families/caregivers are some of the most rewarding aspects of being a geriatrician. My care philosophy is centered on maintaining function and quality of life. If needed, I also have experience in palliative care and leading difficult conversations.

My hope is that, for each and every patient, I can understand their goals and try to address the issues that are most important to them.

My research in improving processes for the delivery of quality care to vulnerable elderly in all settings (inpatient, outpatient and nursing home care) reinforces my patient care practices.

My hope is that, for each and every patient, I can understand their goals and try to address the issues that are most important to them.

  • I appreciate her concern and open mindedness when discussing my suicidal ideation, she really understood my view. And provided me with references and suggestions for how I might deal with this. Just as an aside, I am not suicidal presently. I always feel confident in disclosing any aspects of my overall health that I express.
  • My experience with Dr. Gennari is always excellent. I value all the information that she gives and her concern for me as an older patient. She is very thorough with her examination and easy to communicate with. I am so thankful for having her as my primary care physician.
  • Dr. Gennari is the best primary care physician I have ever had. Her interpersonal skills are excellent, she listens, is friendly and very thorough. And I leave with a better understanding of my body, the condition that brought me to her and helpful suggestions on minimizing or alleviating symptoms. I could go on but you get the gist. In my humble opinion Dr. Gennari is great.

  • Good visit, well organized, useful, and not rushed. Excellent provider.
  • Dr. Gennari is pretty amazing, and I could probably write a tome singing her praises. One thing she does better than anyone is to assess the person she's addressing and tailor her communication to their level and needs. Brilliant!
