Biographical Information
Dr. John Lawlis is an orthopedic surgeon at the University of Vermont Medical Center in South Burlington, VT and assistant professor at Larner College of Medicine at UVM. He treats patients with complex shoulder and knee disorders and specializes in shoulder arthroscopy, knee arthroscopy and total joint arthroplasty of the shoulder and knee, a procedure that involves replacing a damaged joint with a metal, plastic or ceramic device designed to replicate the movement of a normal, healthy joint.
Dr. Lawlis enjoys getting to know his patients and watching them get their pain relieved and their lifestyles and function back. He has always been athletically active and has a personal understanding and interest in the mechanics of the body. He enjoys solving difficult problems and especially enjoys putting his patient’s injured parts back together.
He believes that there is power in knowledge and works in partnership with his patients to empower them to manage their own health by teaching them about their problem and helping them understand the possible solutions so they can decide the best course of action for them.
In the end, he believes his job is all about the patients getting better.
