Deirdre Folsom is a physical therapist at the University of Vermont Medical Center. She specializes in outpatient physical therapy. Deirdre treats patients with muscle pain due to injury or illness, decreased mobility, pain and/or stiffness after total joint replacement and weakness after surgery.
Her research interests lie in aquatic physical therapy because of the unique properties of water that can be used to aid in injury management. Thermo neutral water temperatures increase circulation and promote healing. Buoyancy allows all movements in the water to occur with less effort providing individuals the ability to perform tasks that are difficult on land.
Deirdre is motivated by the day-to-day successes and finding methods that bring results. She also enjoys partnering with her patients to educate them so they can continue working on their own.
Deirdre’s ongoing goal is to empower her clients to work through injury and illness. She aims to be an active member of the health care team that collaborates and coordinates care for each client.
