UVM Health Network Cyberattack

The University of Vermont Health Network continues to make steady progress toward recovering systems from recent cyberattack

Published

The University of Vermont Health Network continues to make steady progress toward recovering systems from the cyberattack. We are very grateful to our staff for their extraordinary work throughout the challenge. We thank our patients and communities for their ongoing support and patience and apologize for any concern and distress this event is causing.

Here are the latest updates:

The University of Vermont Medical Center, Central Vermont Medical Center, Porter Medical Center and Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital now all have "read-only" access to Epic, our electronic health records management system. This will allow providers access to patients' existing health records and help improve the efficiency of the care we deliver.

We continue to make progress restoring back-end systems that support patient-facing applications. However, a time frame for full restoration is still unknown. Patients will continue to experience the impact of the cyberattack for some time.

Other Network updates include:

Patients who were scheduled to have outpatient surgeries at the Fanny Allen campus this week will instead have procedures performed at UVM Medical Center's main campus on the same days. We hope this minimizes disruptions for patients and plan to similarly maintain patients' schedules moving forward.

In Vermont and New York, and across the country, we are seeing a significant spike in COVID-19 cases. As a result, additional restrictions have been put in place at UVMHN hospitals and clinics to limit the spread of the virus. Please be sure to wear masks, social distance and follow local and state guidelines to help protect yourselves and each other.

At the McClure-Miller Respite House, residents are now limited to two total visitors during the day, and one of those two at night. Window visits are also not allowed at this time.

The UVM Health Network will continue to provide systems and patient service updates when they are available. The latest updates and information can be found at www.uvmhealth.org/cyberattack.
