Class Details
TalkVermont’s Mastering Serious Illness Conversations course utilizes small group learning and deliberate practice techniques. Participants will adapt strategies to communicate about serious illnesses with honesty and compassion for the inpatient and outpatient settings for patients.
This course focuses on communicating serious news and discussing what matters most to patients and their caregivers. The majority of the time is spent in small group practice. This course is based off of the evidence-based course, VitalTalk, which has shown to improve skills for practicing clinicians as well as patient care.

*Only those who are registered will be permitted to participate in the course and claim CME/CEU.
Please note:
- Refunds will not be issued unless you cancel within a 21-day period prior to the course date by emailing talkvermont@uvmhealth.org. This is a desirable course, and we need time to fill your slot as well as plan for event space and meals.
- Please only register if you are able to stay for the entirety of the course, as it is disruptive to group formation and maintenance if people leave early.
- Registrations are non-transferable. Registrations will be verified upon attendance on the day of the course. Those who have not registered will not be permitted to attend the course.
- Registration deadline for this course is 30 days in advance due to event space logistics and CMIE policies.
