About Me
My career in medicine began nearly 20 years ago when I entered the nursing profession immediately after completing my undergraduate education. Experiences in public health, community health nursing, primary care as a family nurse practitioner and personal family experiences with cancer all helped shape my path to my current role as an advanced practice provider focused on community outreach and research at the University of Vermont Cancer Treatment Center.
I'm passionate about delivering care in both traditional and nontraditional community settings. Providing community-based health education, building partnerships and advancing population health initiatives are some of the most rewarding aspects of my work. Throughout my career, I have been committed to improving access to care, with a particular focus on underserved and rural populations. I believe in meeting people where they are, both figuratively and geographically.
I'm deeply aligned with the Cancer Center's mission to reduce the burden of cancer through research, education and community engagement. I am especially passionate about cancer prevention, early detection and health education in community settings.
A defining moment in my career came while attending a public health conference in 2015. Dr. Mary Bassett asked attendees to write down the top five numbers that determine a person's health. I was certain the answer included measures like age, weight, blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol. When she revealed the answer was "ZIP code," it transformed my understanding of the social factors that influence health and strengthened my commitment to advancing health equity.
Outside of work, I enjoy connecting with communities and finding new ways to improve health through education, outreach and partnership.
Providing community-based health education, building partnerships and advancing population health initiatives are some of the most rewarding aspects of my work.
