Burlington, Vt. – University of Vermont Medical Center, the anchor academic medical center for UVM Health Network, has again earned recognition as Vermont’s top hospital, with 10 high performing procedures and conditions by U.S. News & World Report, which released its annual “Best Hospitals” rankings this week. In addition, two of the health system’s community hospitals in Vermont and Northern New York – Central Vermont Medical Center and Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital – were again recognized for high performing procedures and conditions. Of the more than 4,500 hospitals that U.S. News evaluated, only 38% earned even a single “High performing” rating.

As nonprofit hospitals, each of the three UVM Health Network health care partners recognized this year by U.S. News & World Report – UVM Medical Center, Central Vermont Medical Center, and Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital – provides lifesaving care to the people of the region, regardless of their ability to pay or whether they have insurance.  

University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vt., the state’s only Level 1 Trauma Center, was recognized as the No. 1 hospital in Vermont, and was also recognized as high performing in the following procedures and conditions: heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, COPD, heart attack, hip replacement, leukemia lymphoma & myeloma, pneumonia and prostate cancer surgery. UVM Medical Center was also recognized for its urology program.

Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vt., was recognized as high performing for pneumonia care.

Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, N.Y., was recognized as high performing for heart failure, COPD and heart attack.
