September ‘Give a pint, get a pint’ campaign will reward blood donors

Patient donates blood during blood drive

The Adirondack Regional Blood Center and Stewart’s Shops are partnering again to reward blood donors with a sweet treat for donating blood during the month of September.

This is the second time Stewart’s has teamed up with Adirondack Regional Blood Center, a program of the University of Vermont Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.

Last September, the campaign attracted nearly 500 donors who each received a certificate for a free pint of prepackaged ice cream or gelato.

The ‘Give a pint, get a pint’ campaign was created to help meet demand for treating patients recovering from accidents, burns, heart surgery, as well as people battling various types of cancer.

Adirondack Regional Blood Center will host blood drives across several Adirondack communities in Clinton, Essex, Franklin and St. Lawrence counties. (Click here for the event list of blood drives)

Across the United States, blood donations are needed every two seconds.

“Here in the North Country, neighbors help each other. And Stewart’s is a place where neighbors meet up. So, working together to encourage life-saving blood donations makes perfect sense,” said Shannon Nutbrown, laboratory manager at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Adirondack Blood Center.

This year’s campaign will run throughout the month of September.

“There is such a high demand for blood donations across the country and that need is especially strong across the North Country,” said Stewart’s Shops marketing director Bill Majewski. “Every donation helps and our partnership with Adirondack Blood Center will go a long way toward saving more lives.”
