Golf Classic Scores a Hole-in-One for Kids’ Health

Golf Classic Scores a Hole-in-One for Kids’ Health

Annual event generates significant support for patients and providers at Golisano Children’s Hospital at UVM Health

Burlington, Vt. – The 35th Annual Golisano Children’s Hospital Golf Classic raised nearly $171,000, continuing a decades-long tradition of community generosity and support for critical health care services befitting children and families across Vermont and Northern New York.

The golf tournament, held in July at Burlington Country Club, brought together 44 teams and more than 100 golfers. An online auction raised more than $6,600, with donations from more than 60 businesses.

With annual support from golfers, volunteers and corporate sponsors — including longtime lead sponsor Farrington Construction of Shelburne, Vermont – the Golf Classic has raised nearly $3.5 million for Golisano Children’s Hospital at UVM Health over the life of the event.

It was the first Golf Classic for Judy Schaechter, MD, who in July became chief of pediatrics at Golisano Children’s Hospital and chair of pediatrics at Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.

“Taking care of children and families is truly a collaborative, community effort,” said Dr. Schaechter. “The Golf Classic is an amazing example of that: People came together from across our region to support and strengthen the high-quality care we provide every day at Golisano Children’s Hospital.”

Dr. Schaechter welcomed players, sponsors, volunteers and patients’ families throughout the day, and she addressed a reception after the event.

“I’m grateful to everyone who supports this fundraiser in any way,” said Dr. Schaechter. “It makes a real difference, and it’s one more reason why I believe that the future of children’s health care in this area is bright.”
