Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Women and Children’s Center Program Brings Families Coping with Infant Loss Together
Candles lit locally and around the globe on October 15 at 7 pm in remembrance
Plattsburgh, NY – On Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 pm candles will be lit locally and all across the globe in recognition of pregnancy loss, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and infant death. The Women and Children’s Center (WCC), part of Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital is hosting a Wave of Light Ceremony in support of families who have lost babies to miscarriage, stillbirth and infant death. The event begins at 5:30 pm in the hospital’s Auditorium A and includes music, fellowship, luminary bag decorating and reading of names. At 7 pm, participants will join others all over the world and light a candle to remember their loved one.
“The Wave of Light Ceremony offers families the opportunity to share and lean on each other for support in the wake of one of the most challenging times in their lives: the loss of a baby,” explained Nancy Boucher, MSN, RNC, of the WCC.
Boucher said it’s important to give families and those who have experienced an infant loss a place where they can be open and share their experiences with each other. “Having a safe place to come and see that they are not alone in what they have experienced and are going through can help,” she said.
Anyone interested in participating in the event can learn more or sign up by calling 518-562-7587.
