Journal Club for EM Residency Program
The University of Vermont Emergency Medicine residency community commits to growth and mastery in emergency medicine from a core of humility and integrity while embracing the beauty of our surroundings and the humanity of our patients.

Message from the Program Director

My journey to Program Director began during residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where I served as chief resident before joining core faculty and advancing to APD. My 10-year Naval career as an Active-Duty Emergency Physician included deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa with Joint Special Operations Command, providing emergency care in challenging environments worldwide.

Vermont and UVM attracted me with the opportunity to bring leadership experience to graduate medical education in a community that values both excellence and balance. Here, rigorous academic training meets exceptional quality of life.

Outside of work, I embrace Vermont's offerings—biking and gardening with my kids Lucy and Miles in summer, skiing in winter, and year-round cooking with ingredients from our garden. This balance between demanding clinical work and meaningful personal time is encouraged and celebrated here.

My interests in emergency medical education, end-of-life care, and resource-limited medicine align with our mission to train well-rounded emergency physicians. Come experience what makes our Vermont emergency medicine community special!
