Carrie Howard-Canning provides strategic leadership for nursing practice across University of Vermont Health. She oversees systemwide integration and coordination of nursing services, ensuring alignment in clinical practice, workforce development, quality and safety, financial planning and technology.

Howard-Canning began her nursing career at age 19 after earning her RN from Clinton Community College and has spent nearly 35 years with UVM Health. Her experience includes clinical and leadership roles at UVM Medical Center, Elizabethtown Community Hospital and Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital. Since 2000, she has held progressive leadership positions and has also contributed to the community through board service, teaching and camp nursing.
