Join us for an engaging book talk and reception with Sarah Jaquette Ray, PhD — author, educator and a national voice on the emotional dimensions of climate and environmental justice. Dr. Ray will discuss the themes of her influential work, exploring how emotions such as anxiety, despair and hope shape our response to the climate crisis, especially among young people. She offers practical tools to help individuals and communities navigate these complex feelings while staying meaningfully engaged.
Dr. Ray is the host of the Climate Magic podcast and author of the widely read book A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety: How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet (2020). She also led an international network of educators to create The Existential Toolkit for Climate Justice Educators (2024), a resource that blends environmental humanities, social justice and psychology.
Her work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Scientific American, and on podcasts including Hidden Brain and The Atlantic’s “How to Age Up.” Through her interdisciplinary approach, Dr. Ray offers insights and strategies for fostering inner resilience, meaningful participation and collective action in the face of a changing climate.
A reception will follow the talk, offering attendees the opportunity to connect, continue the conversation and meet Dr. Ray.
