Support Group Details
The CARERS program consists of an 8-week group for six members facilitated by trained mental health professionals. CARERS is designed to increase understanding of the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia and address caregiver burden.
Sessions are focused on problem solving skills to address practical needs and resource development, and the use of patient simulation and coaching to enhance communication skills and management of emotions. Trained simulated patients attend all group sessions.
CARERS is intended for family members who have been actively providing intensive care over time. This group is for an adult child who is caring for a parent with dementia.
A pre-assessment virtual appointment is needed to register for the group. Therapeutic groups are billed through one's insurance.
This support group is led by Lori P. McKenna, LICSW and Joan Marsh-Reed, MA.
