2025 Nursing Annual Report

Dawn Godaire

Vice President of Clinical Operations

To our UVM Medical Center nurses,

Dawn Godiare

I have been at this organization for more than 35 years. Ten members of my family have worked here as well - more than 200 years of service between us. So when I say this place matters to me, I mean it in a way that is hard to overstate.

This year, across the Medical Group and our entire organization, we asked teams to rethink long-standing processes, adopt new ways of working and coordinate across departments and settings that have not always talked to each other. I am not going to pretend the pace has been comfortable, or that the weight of it hasn't worn on people. It has.

Here is what I know: the decisions get better when nurses are in the room. You see how a change lands on a patient three steps downstream. You spot the distance between the plan and the reality at the patient’s side. You tell us when something won't work, and you are usually right.

Nurses have led real improvements this year - in quality and safety, in mentoring colleagues, and in connecting inpatient, ambulatory and community care so that our patients don’t fall through the seams. Your leadership matters most right now, as we work on access, on simplifying what patients have to navigate and on building something we can sustain. Your experience has to stay at the center of this work, and I will keep pushing to make sure it does.

Thank you for your partnership and for your commitment to patients and to one another. It is an honor to work alongside the nurses of UVM Medical Center.
