Hi, my name is Laura. I grew up as one of five siblings in Madison, WI. Several things led me to psychiatry, with one being my brother David who has autism. David’s life was and continues to be greatly enriched by the relationships he has built with compassionate mental health professionals. I later worked as an emergency room scribe in between college at St. Olaf in Minnesota and medical school at UW-Madison. As a scribe, I saw the impact that a psychiatrist can have during an otherwise frightening time and knew that I wanted to play that role.
For residency, I was looking for a program that balanced academia with a sense of compassion and humanity. I fell in love with Vermont on my interview day. Both the beautiful and vibrant town of Burlington and the warm people in the hospital made this place feel like home. I feel so lucky to be starting my residency here!
