Hobbies: Hiking and biking and skiing the Green Mountains, sunsets at Lake Champlain, eating every pastry at Sweet Simone's, exploring the many local breweries
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: The people! From day one, I knew this was a group I wanted to be a part of. My co-residents are not only exceptional physicians but also wonderful friends. Our faculty are approachable, supportive, and dedicated to helping us succeed. The sense of camaraderie and dedication to the community makes this an incredible place to train.
Future Plans: Applying to Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship and hope to continue serving rural communities.
Sarah Case, MD

Hobbies: Hiking, gravel biking, skiing, reading, baking, neighborhood walks with my husband and our Aussiedoodle, Moose
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: Our amazing and tight-knit residency, L&D, hospital, and local community! We have strong surgical training with graduated autonomy and continuity with attendings and patients. Vermont is an amazing place to live with short commutes to work and the outdoors.
Future Plans: Generalist OB/GYN in Bend, Oregon!
Lindsey Pileika, MD

Hobbies: All things outdoors, picking flowers, yoga, napping, nesting on the farm, floating on the lake
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: Amazing generalist training that is hands on in the OR and appreciates physiologic birth, close relationships with nursing team/attendings, autonomy in training, this incredible group of co-residents who have become family over the past four years, VT is the perfect place to enjoy on your days off regardless of the season.
Future Plans: Community generalist practice with a flavor of academic medicine, interested in working at a FQHC and keeping up all my skills on L&D, clinic and operating in the OR.

Catherine Baril, MD

Hobbies: Thrifting, making pancakes on the weekend, walking outside, and caring for my porch garden
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: I love our close-knit community, the residents care deeply for each other and our patients. We work closely with our nursing colleagues and have very good interdisciplinary collaboration. We also work closely with our attendings and have a lot of opportunities for mentorship, and they are incredibly committed to our learning and professional development. I am so grateful to be able to train in such a supportive setting, in such a beautiful state!
Future Plans: I am excited to continue to learn from my mentors and co-residents to continue working towards being the best doctor I can be!
Jesse Katon, DO

Hobbies: Skiing, biking, rock climbing, hiking, spending time with my family.
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: The community that UVMMC OBGYN is what drew me here from the start - the connection between residents and between residents and attending is wonderful and provides an environment for growth and mentorship.
Future Plans: Currently exploring MIGS fellowship vs Generalist! Hoping to stay in the Northeast to be close to family and friends!
Tiffany Ting, MD

Hobbies: Baking, cooking, throwing dinner parties/home cafes, bullet journaling, rotting
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: I love our L&D culture, including how closely we are integrated with and work with our midwives, nurses, and doulas! I also love that we get to be in surgical cases from Day 1 of residency.
Future Plans: MFM fellowship (fingers crossed)
Stephanie Barajas De Sena, MD

Hobbies: I love spending time with my two little ones, I’m a girl momma! When I’m not on parenting call I enjoy traveling, learning new languages and cultures, rom-coms, weightlifting and providing lactation support!
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: Companionship. I have never seen such a beautiful relationship between residents! They are like a big family, always caring for each other. Working environment and heavy hours are enjoyable.
Future Plans: Hoping for REI fellowship!

Annie Harrington, MD
Medical School
Hobbies: Running, hiking, horseback riding, baking, reading, and spending family time with my husband and two daughters.
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: I love the range of patients we get to see as OBGYNs and the range of our practice as physicians. I am always excited to be on labor and delivery but equally as excited to be in the OR or in the clinic. I love how supportive our entire department is and the great teaching we get every day by amazing physicians that genuinely want to teach and watch us learn and grow as physicians.
Future Plans: I am planning on being a generalist and hope to either stay in Vermont or at least somewhere in New England.
Kate LaRiviere, MD

Hobbies: Gravel biking, buying expensive things at farmer's markets, eating tomato sandwiches
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: The culture- it's an incredibly kind and supportive place to learn. Learning from the midwives- UVM has a strong and collaborative relationship with our fantastic midwife team. Getting to practice our robotic skills early!
Future Plans: Having a full head of grey hair. And the wisdom to go with it.

Future Plans: Not sure yet! Hoping to go back west but we'll see what life holds!

Alenna Beroza, MD

Hobbies: All things outside (skiing, biking, camping, hiking), reading, gardening, yoga, & enjoying delicious food!
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: I’m excited to train at UVM because of the incredible people, supportive learning environment, strong clinical training, and commitment to serving the diverse communities of Vermont. I’m especially looking forward to training in full-spectrum reproductive healthcare in a place that prioritizes patient autonomy, advocacy, and community-centered care. I’m also stoked to explore everything this beautiful state has to offer!
Future Plans: My interests include family planning, global health, reproductive justice, and expanding access to care for communities that have been historically marginalized and least reached by traditional healthcare systems. I hope to become a leader and advocate for reproductive justice while building stronger, more trusting relationships between healthcare providers and the communities we serve!
Lillian Brouwer, MD
Medical School
Hobbies: Triathlon, hiking, skiing, figure skating, making lego flowers, reading, traveling, trying new coffee shops and ice cream shops, and farmers market and trader joes runs!
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: The inviting close-knit community, the ability to balance work with my hobbies out of the hospital, patient-centered OB care and working with nurse midwives and doulas, and faculty that are passionate about teaching and legislative advocacy.
Future Plans: Keeping an open mind, but likely something heavily involving gyn surgery- thinking about REI or MIGS fellowship! Regardless of my formal training path, I see myself advocating for my patients in and out of the hospital, acknowledging a patient's fears, goals, and past experiences as I address their symptoms, and staying involved in research and medical education throughout my career.
Caroline George, MD

Hobbies: Gardening, Cookbooks (reading and cooking!), Yoga, Skiing, Hiking, and hanging out with the resident sheep on the small farm where I live.
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: I happy to be able to stay in the community that I've lived in for the past 10 years. Vermont is a special place where often it only takes a quick conversation to find a connection with someone. Plus, the creemees are reason enough to stay.
Future Plans: I am looking forward to continuing exploring what aspect of OBGYN I enjoy the most and going from there. Right now, I'm interested in Gyn surgery, labor management, and family planning.
Dale Hansen, MD

Hobbies: I love getting outside, especially hiking, backpacking, skiing, climbing, and paddling! I also enjoy crafts, particularly anything to do with knitting, crocheting, or spinning yarn.
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: I am so excited to train to be an OBGYN at UVM. I am amazed every day by how supportive our team is, both of our patients and of each other. It is a privilege to train in an environment where patient's needs and individual circumstances are centered and advocacy is encouraged.
Future Plans: I am looking forward to spending the next four years exploring everything the field has to offer! I am still deciding if I want to remain a generalist or subspecialize, but I know that I want to remain involved in advocacy work throughout my career.
