What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: Everything! I came to UVM out of residency in 2017 and immediately fell in love with Vermont and the OBGYN residency program. I made it my goal back then to one day be the program director and I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to lead the program. We have some of the best residents you will ever meet, and I am proud of everything we have accomplished together and all that we will accomplish in the future.
Future Plans: Being the Residency Program Director was on my bucket list, but I hope to continue to collaborate with my national peers to enable our residents to benefit from broader educational initiatives and opportunities for collaboration with peers at other institutions. I want to grow the educational footprint of our program and enable our residents to thrive in any environment upon graduation, and have the career of their dreams!
Meet OBGYN’s Residency Program Administrator
Heather Gutchell, BSW
College
Hobbies: Writing poetry, photography, crafting – especially cross-stitching & resin work, trailblazing in the woods, reading, laughing as much as possible, meals with friends, random adventures and anything my teenage son is willing to do to spend time with me; usually eating creemees or watching The Rookie.
What excites me about OBGYN training at UVM: The residents are the coolest, most close-knit group you could be part of. The faculty are highly involved in teaching, lecturing, mentoring, being part of necessary committees, assisting with research, and more. The department and educational leadership are consistently finding ways to improve the clinical and educational culture for the residents, as well as provide a supportive structure so that the residents can be successful throughout residency. What also excites me is working alongside a department that I was literally born into in 1982!
Future Plans: At some point in life, I will retire from healthcare and become the diner waitress that everyone comes to see during Sunday brunch. I will be that eccentric, smiling, fun, old lady who pours your coffee and genuinely wants to hear how your life is going. I’ll give hugs to whoever wants one when they arrive and as they leave because there are not enough hugs that happen in this world.
