Resident Wellness

Our program works hard to cultivate a welcoming and supportive learning environment. We encourage our residents to put their personal wellness first, with no restrictions on when residents take personal medical or mental health appointments. We also provide mornings free from duties 4 times a year (wellness time) in place of resident didactics to enable residents to book appointments ahead, or just take time for themselves. Our program also provides protected space for a resident retreat, where the residents are covered by attendings for all clinical duties from Thursday night to Saturday morning, allowing all the residents (even those working nights) to participate in the event.

University of Vermont Medical Center also offers the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) which “offers free, short-term and confidential counseling with a licensed counselor, as well as connections to other community services.”
