Life in Vermont

From the sophistication of its largest city, to the natural beauty found around every bend in the road; from its family friendly atmosphere, to its unlimited recreational opportunities, Vermont offers a quality of life that is second to none.

Bustling Burlington

As one of the country's most livable small cities, Burlington offers a sophisticated arts scene and countless opportunities to enjoy concerts, galleries, restaurants or nightlife. Head outdoors and you'll find kayaking, sailing, ice skating, biking along Lake Champlain, or just hang out to watch the sunset.

Beyond Burlington

A ten-minute drive from Burlington will have you looking over green pastures that stretch all the way to the slopes of the Green Mountains.

A bit farther and you enter a world of small clapboard villages that define the essence of New England. In villages like Stowe and Waitsfield, clusters of cozy inns, shops and restaurants lie at the base of world-famous ski areas. And that's just a small fraction of the outdoor adventure that awaits you in the area.

Family Life

Vermont offers you the choice of living in a bustling family neighborhood, a 200 year-old farmhouse on a quiet hillside, or an urban loft that's just steps from the action of downtown. Either way, your commute is likely to be less than it would be almost anywhere else. The area boasts many fine schools and is rated one of America's safest places to live. And major cities like Boston, New York City and Montreal are all just a short trip away.

Why Choose GME at UVM Medical Center

"There is the serenity in the beauty of Vermont with the mountains and the valleys. The people genuinely enjoy the outdoors, good quality food (and beer!), and are warm and inviting. Being close enough for a drive to Montreal, Boston, or NY is also perfect for easy travel getaways. As someone who enjoys being active and the outdoors, going out to restaurants and breweries, and hanging around with like-minded hospitable people I could not pick a better place!

From the amazing hikes and hanging out by Lake Champlain in the summer, to the incredible fall colors, and awesome ski slopes in the winter, Burlington, VT has it all! After completing residency here, I decided to come back to UVMMC after fellowship because there is no other place that has all the camaraderie and close-knit feel of a small department with all the resources and expertise of a large academic institution.

I love walking along the bike path, eating at one of the great food places around town, or watching the sunset on the beaches, all while seeing the beautiful views of the lake and mountains in the distance.
